Website Accessibility Statement
Compliance with accepted accessibility standards
The accessibility of the Saarland University website www.uni-saarland.de was assessed on 14 December 2020 by an independent third-party. The BIK evaluation report was issued on 18 February 2021. An assessment was conducted by Saarland's digital accessibility agency (Überwachungsstelle Digitale Barrierefreiheit Saarland) on 7 October 2021. The technical faults identified in the assessment have been rectified. We are working hard to rectify the remaining issues.
Core website content managed by the university's central online editorial team that does not currently meet accessibility criteria
The core content on Saarland University's website is managed by the central online editorial team. On the whole, these pages are accessible to everyone, both in terms of technical accessibility and content accessibility. However, the following areas need to be addressed:
- Most of the PDF documents are not accessible to people using assistive technologies.
- Some elements in web forms are not accessible to people using assistive technologies.
- The web pages do not yet contain explanations in sign language of the content offered on the site.
Specialized website content managed by departmental editorial teams that does not currently meet accessibility criteria
Not all of the university's web content is maintained by the central online editorial team. Some web pages (e.g. those of the faculties, departments, research groups, etc.) are managed independently by around 1000 web editors. These pages meet current technical accessibility standards. However, some of these specialized web pages fail to meet content accessibility requirements.
- Some texts are poorly structured with headings and sub-headings not identified as such.
- Some of the content is presented in the form of complex tables.
- Many of the images do not offer alternative text descriptions.
- Many hyperlink texts (anchor texts) are not sufficiently descriptive for those using assistive technologies (such as screen readers).
- Most of the PDF documents are not accessible to people using assistive technologies.
- Some elements in web forms are not accessible to people using assistive technologies.
To help departmental web editors remedy these issues, the central online editorial team offers training sessions and provides information on accessibility in its content management manual (in German).
