Welcome to Saarland University!
The Welcome Center is happy to assist you with the planning and implementation of your stay at Saarland University.
On these web pages you will find information specifically for new international employees. We are happy to support you in all phases of your stay: before entry, after entry, during your entire stay as a member of Saarland University and, if necessary, in preparing a departure from Saarland University.

Housing
As in many German cities, the housing market in Saarbrücken is very busy. We therefore advise you to start looking for accommodation early. To increase your chances of success, it can also be useful to consider the surrounding districts and suburbs. Thanks to numerous bus connections and the Saarbahn, it is easy to get to Saarland University even from more distant parts of the city.
It can be particularly useful for guests arriving from abroad to book temporary accommodation first. You can find numerous platforms online for short-term accommodation or vacation apartments ("Ferienwohnung").
Our university guesthouse can also be an option for up to 6 months of initial accommodation after arrival.
Bringing your family
The Family Office at Saarland University offers comprehensive support for international employees travelling with their families, whether it is childcare or caring responsibilities. The Family Office helps with integration into the German education system and provides information on kindergartens, schools and leisure activities for children. The office also provides advice on topics such as balancing family and career, offers events and networking opportunities for families and is an important point of contact for anyone who is new to Saarbrücken.
German and other language classes
Would you like to improve your German language skills or are you interested in courses in English, French, Spanish or other languages?

Sport classes
As an employee of Saarland University, you can take part in the various sports programmes of the university sports department and also register at the fitness studio on campus (“Unifit”). You can find all the information you need on the University Sports website.
Further training opportunities for employees
The Teaching and Learning Centre offers numerous courses in the areas of didactics, IT, media, time management and much more.
In the area of human resources development, you will find offers for leadership skills, occupational health management, coaching, etc.
Jobticket
As an employee of Saarland University, you can obtain the Deutschlandticket for local public transport as a discounted subscription price, the so-called “Job-Ticket”. More information and the forms to order the ticket can be found on the website of the HR department (Dezernat P).
