Freemover-Studies

Are you interested in coming to Saarland University as a freemover student? We are very happy about that!

On this website you will find lots of information about what Saarland University has to offer and the courses we offer.
If you would like to submit an application, we first need the following documents by email to welcome(at)uni-saarland.de:

  • Transcript of Records from your home university
  • Certificate of enrolment from your home university
  • Letter of motivation
  • Language certificates for German or English (depending on your choice of courses)
  • a letter of recommendation from a professor or lecturer at your home university
  • the completed list of courses you would like to attend at Saarland University
  • Scan of your passport

How do I know if I receive an admission?

Important: In order to be considered for admission, all documents must be submitted to us by the deadline!

  • Deadline for the summer semester: December 01 (of the previous year)
  • Deadline for the winter semester: June 01

As soon as all documents are complete, we will check your application. This review will take some time, as we will check your previous academic achievements and your chosen courses in Saarbrücken. In some subjects, we will also request the approval of the faculty here in Saarbrücken.
We will then inform you by email about the result of the application, i.e. whether you can receive a letter of admission or not.

If it is possible for us to admit you as a freemover, we will send you the digital application for admission in the next step. You must then complete this online. We will then send you a letter of admission with information for online enrolment.
You can then complete your enrolment before you arrive so that your student card (UdS Card), your IT credentials and your Deutschlandticket are ready for you at the start of the semester.

How can I choose my courses?

You can find the Saarland University courses online in the LSF directory.
The courses for the respective semester are only published a few weeks before the semester begins. You do not need to log in to see the course lists in the LSF directory to see the classes.
You can use previous semesters as a guide to get an initial idea of the courses on offer. For example, if you would like to come next winter semester, check the courses from the previous semester in the LSF directory. The courses will not be completely identical, but it will give you a good initial orientation.
