Registering as a guest researchers

If you are conducting a research stay for which you do not receive an employment contract (e.g. if you are funded by a Humboldt Fellowship), the Welcome Centre can conclude a so-called Guest Scientist Agreement with you. This way, you receive the status of an affiliated member of Saarland University. We can then also provide you with a UdS card and, if needed, with access to the IT systems of the HIZ (usually not for stay under 3 months, unless needed).
We will also be happy to help you with the hosting agreement that you may require for your visa.

Housing

As in many German cities, the housing market in Saarbrücken is very busy. We therefore advise you to start looking for accommodation early. To increase your chances of success, it can also be useful to consider the surrounding districts and suburbs. Thanks to numerous bus connections and the Saarbahn, it is easy to get to Saarland University even from more distant parts of the city.

It can be particularly useful for guests arriving from abroad to book temporary accommodation first. You can find numerous platforms online for short-term accommodation or vacation apartments ("Ferienwohnung").
Our guesthouse can also be an option for up to 6 months of initial accommodation after arrival.
