What do I need to be aware of if a member of my team is pregnant? Are there any special rules that I need to follow?
If a member of your team is pregnant, there are a number of special procedures that you need to comply with. If you have any questions in this area, please contact the Gender Equality Office for assistance. The Gender Equality Office can explain the rights and obligations that members of your team have and can provide additional advice as required. Issues covered include appointing temporary replacement staff during maternity leave or details about the university’s work continuity scheme.
If you yourself become pregnant and require information, advice or assistance, you should directly contact the university’s full-time Gender Equality Officer at the Gender Equality Office. You should also submit written notification of your pregnancy or a doctor’s note to your HR adviser at the HR Service Team for Civil Servants (Beamte). A letter with relevant information will then be sent to you. If you need to care for a child or for a member of your family, you can discuss this issue in confidence either with your adviser at the HR Division, who you can contact to discuss formal administrative matters, or with the Gender Equality Office if you need more general help and advice. The staff at these two service units will ensure that all necessary steps are taken.
