Diversity Weeks 2023
Review
Saarland University is celebrating the Diversity Weeks from May 2nd to June 2nd - from lectures to picnics, various formats invite you to explore the topic of diversity and anti-discrimination, to inform yourself and to network.
The Equal Opportunities and Diversity Management Unit (CDM), together with various cooperation partners, has organised a series of events on the topic of diversity. An exciting mix of various online formats and face-to-face events has been achieved, which are open to all members of the UdS at all locations. Many of the events are conducted in German and English. All face-to-face events will take place on the Saarbrücken campus, unless another location is explicitly named.

Greeting by Vice-President for Administration and Finance Dr. Roland Rolles
Dear Members of the University,
On behalf of the University, I would like to draw your attention to the Diversity Weeks at Saarland University, which will take place from May 2nd to June 2nd. For this year as well, the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Management Unit (CDM) has been able to organise an exciting series of events on the topic of diversity together with various cooperation partners. A diverse programme consisting of various online formats and face-to-face events in German and English has been successfully created, to which all members of the UdS at all locations are cordially invited.
With the Diversity Weeks and their programme, the UdS would like to live up to the understanding of the signed Diversity Charter and once again contribute to raising awareness of the importance of diversity and equal opportunities and to creating a positive climate in a discrimination-free environment for all.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in making the Diversity Weeks happen. I am looking forward to a large amount of interest and wish all participants an exciting time.
Dr. Roland Rolles, Vice President Administration and Finance
#-campaign
Saarland University, with its campuses in Saarbrücken and Homburg, has set itself the goal of being a discrimination-free university. On the way there, there are already places where you can feel safe from discriminatory experiences. Together with the Studierendenwerk Saarland, the campaign "#myzerodiscriminationplace - making discrimination-free places visible" was therefore initiated.
Under #myzerodiscriminationplace, you can submit pictures and videos of discrimination-free places on the Saarbrücken campus, the Homburg campus or even dormitories. If you don't want to ponder over a photo idea alone, you have the opportunity to use the photo box of the CDM unit on the following dates during the Diversity Weeks:

Accessibility Action Day on May 5th - Shaping a barrier-free future.
May 5th is the European Day of Protest for the Equality of People with Disabilities. To mark this day, the Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management Unit, in cooperation with the Inclusion Officer and the Representative for Severely Disabled Persons, is organizing the "Accessibility Action Day" on the Saarbrücken campus.
Under the motto of the protest day of Aktion Mensch, "Shaping the future barrier-free", interested parties can discuss various questions. What barriers exist on the way to university and on the campus itself? Are they environmental or also attitudinal barriers? How can these barriers be addressed to make the university more accessible? The members of the UdS should thus be sensitized to the university's goal of enabling all people to participate equally in university life.
In addition to a wide range of information, interested students and staff can take part in barrier checker tours of the campus. Here, existing barriers are to be experienced and made visible, e.g. with the help of markings with chalk/barrier tape or stickers.
In addition, people who are interested in supporting the "Host Town Program" can come forward: During the week of June 12-15, the UdS will be part of the "Host Town Program" of the city of Saarbrücken as part of the Special Olympics.

International Day against Queerphobia
On the way to a discrimination-free society, minorities need allies from the majority.
After a short input, the exchange starts on how support for queer colleagues and an open working climate can succeed and be shaped.
FAQ:
Why 17/05/?
The International Day Against Homo-, Bi-, Inter-, Trans-, Ace-, and Abinaryphobia (IDAHOBITA) has been celebrated annually on 17 May since 2005 by queer people and their allies as a day of action to highlight discrimination against queer people. The date was chosen to commemorate May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organization (WHO) decided to de-pathologize homosexuality.
Who is the target group?
All UdS employees who are interested in actively shaping a queer-friendly work climate.
I am queer myself. Do I have to come out at the event?
No. Personal sexual or gender identity is not a topic of the event.
Can I participate anonymously?
Yes. If you would like to participate anonymously or not with your Uni -Teams account for personal reasons, simply provide us with a private email address to which we can send you the link to the event.

Welcome to the Intercultural Family Meet & Eat!
In addition to work, study, and childcare, there is often no time to make new contacts. We want to change that! At the Intercultural Family Meet & Eat we welcome all international employees, guests, and students as well as their families.
This time, in the name of INTERNATIONAL FAMILY EQUALITY DAY (Rainbow Family Day on 7 May), the motto of the meeting is "Power up Families". We would like to take this opportunity to explicitly invite all families, whether rainbow, single-parent, patchwork or classic family.
On Tuesday, 23.05.2023, we will meet from 4:00pm - 6:00pm for our relaxed pot-luck at the campus lawn next to AC-Café (alternative room in case of rain: Campus Centre building A4 4, room 2.02). There will be tea and coffee and everyone can bring a snack, whether homemade or self-bought. We look forward to intercultural exchange on a wide variety of topics.
Toys and childcare will be provided for the children.
For better planning of childcare, we kindly ask you to register until the 21.05.2023.

Diversity management is a part of human resources management that aims, among other things, to promote the social, cultural and ethnic diversity of employees and to make the best possible use of it for the benefit of the company.
Good diversity management demonstrably increases the success of a company and makes an important contribution, especially in times of crisis. Managing directors of small and medium-sized companies in particular are often unable to understand the term properly. Yet the path to more diversity is not as rocky as many think.
The Regional Association of Saarbrücken, the Saarbrücken Economic Region Association and East Side Fab. invite you to the workshop Leadership in times of crisis - how diversity can help everyone.

Welcome
