Onboarding for First-Semester Students: Digital Learning Platforms

Dear New Students,

How to begin your studies at Saarland University? At the start of the 2025/26 winter semester, we will introduce you to three essential learning platforms: LSF (course portal), Microsoft Teams (chat-based collaboration space), and Moodle (learning management system). These are the main digital tools used for teaching at Saarland University (UdS).

You will also receive other useful tips and information about free courses and digital resources available with campus licences, such as Turnitin, AI tools for study and the UdS app. The following hybrid sessions (available on-site and online) will be offered in German, English, French, and Chinese. Each session provides step-by-step introductions to the platforms, followed by a Q&A session.

Option 1. Secure your ticket for the in-person events.

  • 3:00 p.m. – MS Teams: Getting started and "Questions & Answers" (Q&A)
• Thursday, October 9, 2025 – FRENCH: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Option 2. Online participation:.

Join the course online via MS Teams

Please open the course link on the day of the workshop. The link will remain the same for all five sessions. 

You are welcome to register with MS Teams before the event (desktop version recommended so that you can try the functions out directly in Teams during the event). Your username is your UdS-ID followed by @uni-saarland.de. If you have not yet received your UdS ID (HIZ-Kennung, HIZ-Account all mean the same) and password by post from the HIZ (University IT Center),you can still join the session without logging in. To do so, press the top button.

For ambitious learners: You can also install MS Teams on your computer first to check your device in the settings.

If you plan to attend the session on campus, we kindly ask you to register in advance.
