Programme-funded tenure-track professorships
Dr habil. Florian Weber holds the junior professorship for ‘European Studies - specialising in Western Europe and border regions’ in the Department of Geography. The junior professorship focusses on changing societies and border demarcation processes in Europe and beyond. It builds a bridge between the Faculty of Empirical Humanities and Economics and the Faculty of Humanities and benefits from close links to the France Centre, the Europa-Kolleg CEUS and the UniGR Centre for Border Studies.
Against the background of the planned nationwide introduction of a state examination course in psychotherapy, a two-year course leading to a degree in ‘Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy’ is to be established at the UdS in addition to a general Master's programme in Psychology. To support these developments and in consideration of the growing demand for psychotherapeutic teaching modules in psychology, Dr Anselm Crombach has taken on the junior professorship for ‘Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and Psychotherapy’ in the Department of Psychology.
Dr Marcel Lauterbach takes up a junior professorship in ‘Molecular Imaging’. The aim of his laboratory is to understand the interplay between the ultrastructure and function of neurones and glia. To this end, modern optical and electrophysiological techniques are used and further developed. In an interdisciplinary approach, the gap between the development of microscopy techniques and their application is closed. In particular, STED microscopy (Stimulated Emission Depletion Microscopy) is used.
Dr Sandra Rother takes up the junior professorship for ‘Molecular Signal Processing’ in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the PZMS. She deals with the processing of molecular signals on complex membrane structures and is therefore closely involved in existing (SFB 894, IRTG 1830) and planned collaborative projects. It also fulfils an important bridging function within the research and study programmes of ZHMB and ZBI.
Dr Simon Brandhorst has taken up the junior professorship for ‘Mathematics with a focus on constructive methods in algebra’. It is used for basic research and is assigned to computer algebra and embedded in the new SFB/TRR 195 ‘Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Applications’: In this way, the bridge between mathematics and computer science is strengthened.
In the Department of Computer Science, Dr Tomohiro Nagashima has taken on the junior professorship for ‘Digital Education (Technology Enhanced Learning)’ in the field of computer-aided teaching/learning research. The aim is to introduce and technically support new developments and applications of digital teaching/learning technologies such as intelligent tutor systems at the UdS. In co-operation with the educational sciences and with close links to the DFKI's Educational Technology Lab, this interdisciplinary field of research is to be strengthened at the UdS and at the same time respond to the increasing demand from teachers and students for digital support in teaching.
The junior professorship for ‘Molecular Cell Biophysics’ has been filled by Dr Laura Aradilla-Zapata. Her junior professorship is located at the interface between cell biology and cell biophysics: the junior professorship will focus on biological and biophysical mechanisms that determine and influence cell dynamics in tissues and organs. The junior professorship will be integrated into the new Centre for Biophysics (ZBP) and the interdisciplinary and inter-site CRC 1027 ‘Physical Modelling of Non-Equilibrium Processes in Biological Systems’.
The junior professorship for ‘Pharmaceutical Materials and Processing’ in the field of Pharmacy has been filled by Dr Sangeun Lee. The professorship is intended to form a central bridge to non-university research institutions. The aim is to strengthen the materials science and process engineering foundations for the pharmaceutical formulation of drugs.
The Junior Professorship for ‘Integrative Cell Biology and Bioinformatics’, held by Dr Fabian Müller, is located in the biosciences with close links to the ZBI, ZHMB, ZBP, INM and IBMT. It focusses on linking multidimensional data from experimental cell research and related models for molecular research into biological systems.
Dr Jonas Nesselhauf strengthens the Department of Art and Cultural Studies. As a junior professor for ‘European Comparative Media Studies’, he is linked to the Research Training Group ‘European Dream Cultures’ (RTG 2021), which has been funded by the DFG since 2015. The unique national denomination of this junior professorship already indicates its interdisciplinary and intermedial profile: Jonas Nesselhauf's research and teaching is therefore dedicated to questions of comparative media (culture) research from a decidedly European perspective.
Dr Annemarie Verkerk has taken up the junior professorship ‘Language Science’ in the Department of Linguistics and Language Technology. This is integrated into the interdisciplinary and inter-faculty CRC 1102 ‘Information Density and Linguistic Encoding’.
