Leadership Track Model (FKT)
For permanent positions in research, teaching and academic management (beyond the professorship), which require a special pre-qualification, the so-called ‘executive track model’ (FKT model for short) was created at UdS.
In line with the tenure track for junior professorships, a fixed-term qualification and probationary phase, previously defined in terms of duration and requirements, leads to permanent employment following a successful interim and final evaluation. This job model offers advantages for all parties involved: on the one hand, it offers a high degree of predictability, commitment and transparency, and on the other hand, it ensures that the potential job holder is optimally integrated into the long-term employment relationship.
The positions with a management track are aimed at young academics in an early career phase, usually shortly after completing their doctorate, in exceptional cases even before.
The provision and funding of FKT positions is the responsibility of the faculties or institutions. It therefore depends on the availability of funds and the organisational need for a permanent position. The special profile of the position should require a phase of qualification and probation. The FKT model can also be implemented outside the UdS for the cooperative filling of corresponding permanent positions with external partners (e.g. companies or non-university research institutes).
