Element Analysis & Mass Spectrometry

The Core Facility Elemental Analysis & Mass Spectrometry at Saarland University has modern methods for high-resolution structural elucidation of natural and synthetically produced organic and inorganic molecules as well as methods for mass determination and determination of functional groups in macromolecular systems (FT-ICR-MS and GC-MS).

CHN-S analysis enables the determination of the element content of the elements carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur in organic compounds in the percentage range.

For inorganic samples, advanced methods for isotope and trace element analysis of aqueous samples (ICP-OES, ICP-MS and LC-ICP-QQQ) as well as spatially resolved methods for multi-element analysis in solid phases (LA-ICP-QQQ) are available. By combining several techniques, almost all elements of the periodic table can be analysed.

The equipment centre is supported by the chairs of Inorganic Solid State Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, which contribute their respective expertise and equipment to the centre.

The centre is available to all members of Saarland University as well as external scientists and institutions, subject to the terms of use
