Raluca Judele - Professorial Appointment Management and Human Resources

Here to stay

That’s the motto that seems to fit Raluca Judele’s career path. She came to Saarland University in 2006 to study and has stayed ever since. After completing her degree, Raluca was offered the opportunity to work in an academic department in 2012. After about five and a half years in academia, new opportunities opened up for her in university administration, where has been working ever since. Her path in the university's administration began in the University President's  Office and since 2021 she has also been working in the Human Human Resources Division.

Starting out her career at Saarland University, Raluca was surprised by just how much was going on in the background and just how many people working here, especially in university administration. It was also an interesting experience to interact with the professors she knew as a student on a new level and to see a different side of them.

...is how Raluca describes working at Saarland University in just (a few more than) three words.

Things she particularly appreciates are that there isn’t pressure to meet certain monetary performance targets and there isn’t an overly competitive mentality among colleagues. Instead, Raluca explains, colleagues from different areas and departments work collaboratively to help the university fulfil its mission.

Aside from the flexibility and freedom that the university offers, Raluca appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with her colleagues – some of whom she now counts as good friends. ‘Overall, the team spirit and sense of togetherness is really harmonious, supportive and positive,’ Raluca says.

When asked what the absolute highlight of her time at Saarland University has been, Raluca doesn’t miss a beat – she met her now husband here at the university. Not even the many wonderful celebrations that Raluca has shared with her colleagues can top that.

A typical workday...

...starts relatively late for Raluca in comparison to her colleagues – which is made possible by the flexible working hours offered by the university. ‘I am among those that get to work a bit later,’ Raluca says. ‘I am here around 8.30 or 9 a.m.’ Coffee and emails are the first things Raluca checks off. Raluca helps to manage professorial appointments procedures on behalf of the professorial appointment committee and acts as an advisor should any problems or questions arise. She also helps prepare and follow up on interviews and is involved in optimizing the appointment process. Raluca is also responsible for onboarding newly appointed professors and helps ensure that they start their time at Saarland University on the right foot – a role she particularly enjoys. In addition, she works on projects in university development and human resources, which means she enjoys a pleasant mix of routine and new tasks, ensuring her days never get boring.

If she's not having lunch at the Meerwiesertalweg site, Raluca will try and eat at Philo Café – her favourite café on campus. After work, Raluca can often be found at the University Sports Center, which is a perfect way for her to unwind and where she also teaches courses. Saarland University positively encourages employees to stay fit and healthy. Thanks to the  physical activity logbook (Uni-Aktivpass), employees like Raluca can count one hour of registered training per week as working time.
