Where we work

Four sites, one university

The university is spread across several locations in Saarland. Our main site is the Saarbrücken campus, where most university employees work. The campus in Saarbrücken has a lot to offer, including a wide range of culinary options and variety of shops that cater to your everyday needs. Our Meerwiesertalweg site, which is located only a few kilometres from the main Saarbrücken campus, is home to most of the university's central administrative services. 

The Homburg campus is located about 30 kilometres from Saarbrücken and is the site of the university's Medical Faculty and the Saarland University Medical Center. We also have a site in Dudweiler, about three kilometres from the Saarbrücken campus. The Dudweiler site offers a range of multi-use spaces that can be used as laboratories, classrooms, etc., all of which are located in an attractive building complex in a quiet environment.

 

Saarland

Saarland University has much to offer, but so too does our home state of Saarland. Saarland has something for everyone, whether you're a nature lover, culture enthusiast or gourmet. For outdoor enthusiasts, Saarland offers a landscape rich in forests, quiet ponds, winding rivers, unspoilt paths and rocky outcrops as well as a well-developed network of hiking trails and cycle paths – a number of which have been recognized as being among Germany's finest. With its museums, galleries, concert halls and a number of architectural gems, Saarland is a haven for culture lovers, too. 

For night owls, there are the theatres, cinemas, bars, clubs and discos. And what does Saarland have to offer foodies and gourmets? Saarland's unofficial motto is 'Hauptsach gudd gess', roughly translatable as 'All's well if you eat well'! And Saarland caters to all tastes and budgets, from the numerous regional specialities, such as 'Dibbelabbes' or 'Hoorische', to international cuisine and Michelin-starred restaurants. 

The Greater Region

Together with its neighbours in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Grand Est region of France, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Wallonia region of Belgium, Saarland is part of an area in the very heart of Europe known as the Greater Region ('Großregion'). The Greater Region offers a rich variety of cultural, leisure and recreational activities. 

Saarland University is also part of the 'University of the Greater Region' (UniGR), a regional network of higher education institutions comprising seven universities. This unique network promotes both student and staff mobility and encourages cross-border projects and teaching activities, making it possible, for example, for someone studying in Luxembourg to easily attend a seminar in Saarbrücken or vice versa. The UniGR network offers numerous benefits for both students and staff at the partner institutions including access to many of the services and facilities at the other UniGR universities.
