The working group addresses diverse, complex, and shifting social contexts and processes of border demarcation in Europe and beyond. From a geographical and thus spatial perspective, we illuminate the interplay of political, economic, ecological, social, individual, and other components as well as dominant patterns of interpretation, particularly those related to upheavals. The working group adopts a constructivist approach that assumes social realities are manufactured. Along with an analytical focus, we will also examine what options can be derived for practice.
