Research

At the Chair of Polymer Materials, we design, synthesize, study and process a wide range of different polymer-based materials and systems. These have a broad range of applications, from soft robotics to the biomedical field. We use precise polymer synthesis methods, modern analytical techniques, and advanced fabrication technology, and study polymeric systems and properties in solution, at interfaces, and in bulk. This yields advanced, well-defined polymer materials that help meet the global challenges of the 21st century - from supplying a growing world population with adequate health care, to providing clean water and energy, and enabling and overall sustainalbe developement.

Our particular research interests are: bioinspired, biomimetic and bioactive polymers; additive manufacturing of polymer materials; polymer surfaces and interfaces; sustainability and a circular polymer economy.
