Welcome!
The International Study Centre Saar (ISZ Saar) is a central institution at Saarland University that helps international applicants prepare to study at the university. We also provide international students with ongoing support during their studies by offering in-sessional courses designed to ensure that they have the skills to make a success of their chosen academic programme.
At ISZ Saar you can:
- take an intensive German language course to prepare for the DSH language proficiency test. (Prerequisite: a recognized higher education entrance qualification from your home country in accordance with the relevant anabin guidelines),
- without a direct university entrance qualification (HZB) apply for the International foundation programme (VSI) with the three programme options MINT, Humanities or Business Science and Economics, which includes a initial preparatory phase at the ISZ Saar and a subsequent higher education access phase at the Saarland University,
- take in-sessional German language courses either to acquire the language skills you need to achieve your potential in your academic studies, or to earn elective credits, or, if you are an Erasmus or other exchange student, to simply improve your proficiency in German,
- attend one of our pre-sessional short intensive courses in German as a foreign language (‘Erasmus courses’) to help you study successfully during the coming semester,
- take one of our specialist German language courses for doctoral students,
- learn German from the beginner level upwards and practice it in German courses for university staff,
- join the tandem language exchange programme that ISZ Saar runs in cooperation with the Welcome Center and the university’s Language Centre (SZSB),
- register for one of the courses and workshops in the field ofinternational academic culture (Wissenschaft und Wissenschaftskulturen international).
