Discover Brescia

With 198,000 inhabitants, Brescia is the second-largest city in Lombardy and a key industrial and economic hub in Italy. Beyond its modern and bustling character, Brescia is celebrated as a wonderful „città d’arte“, boasting historical squares, cathedrals, the Lombardian Santa Giulia monastery complex  (recognised as UNESCO world heritage site) and Roman Capitolium. The historical city centre is rich with ancient buildings and monuments, reflecting Brescia’s extensive Celtic, Roman and Medieval heritage.

The landscape surrounding the city is diverse, ranging from the hilly Prealps to expansive lakes and Alps valleys in Valle Camonica. This area is perfect for short and pleasant trips. So, lakes Garda and Iseo are just 30 km away from Brescia and can be reached by train in a few minutes. Several ski resorts are also only a stone’s throw away from the city.

Brescia’s prime location in Northern Italy and excellent train connections make it easy to explore other major cities. Milan and Verona are less than an hour away, Turin, Venice, and Bologna can be reached in about two hours, and Florence and Rome are less than three hours away.

Structure and contents

Double degree students will spend the first academic year in Saarbrücken. Afterwards, they will move to Brescia to complete the second academic year.

During the first academic year, students will develop competences in different domains of specialised and culture-specific translation, acquire basic programming skills, familiarise themselves with language and translation technologies and get acquainted with the methods and principles of linguistic research.

During the second academic year, students will further enhance their competences in specialised translation and the application of modern translation technologies. Additionally, particular emphasis will be placed on marketing communication and the handling of multimedia content within an economic context. Students will also be offered the opportunity to participate in a project where they will develop project management competences, with a specific focus on translation-related workflows.

Moreover, the study programme includes a compulsory translation-related internship, which may take place in settings such as publishing houses, museums, theatres, or private companies. This internship will offer students the opportunity to apply the competences acquired during their studies and gain direct insights into the professional world.
