History of our department

The department of Language Science and Technology was founded in 2016 and consists of the former departments of "Applied Linguistics and Translation and Interpreting" and "Computational Linguistics and Phonetics (General Linguistics)". Research and teaching in our department combine many linguistic disciplines, including in particular computational linguistics, psycholinguistics, phonetics, language technology, corpus linguistics and translation studies. In research and teaching, the department has been cooperating with the related disciplines of computer science, psychology and the philologies at Saarland University for a long time and maintains numerous active collaborations with other institutions on a national and international level.
