Our delegates Rainer Egler, Léon Jost and Fadia Sauerwein represented the department for a second time at the EXPOLINGUA language fair in Berlin, a hub for language enthusiasts in education and training, for cultural exchange and for international opportunities to learn and work.
The many visitors had the chance to talk to more than 50 exhibitors in total, including the European Commission, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the German Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators, as well as various publishing houses and language schools. Pupils, parents and teachers intending to return to their schools as multipliers, as well as established language experts, were highly interested in our courses and were able to obtain detailed information and advice about the options and current job prospects. Particularly the innovative and forward-looking combination of language, science and technology in our courses met with great interest. Representatives from industry and education confirmed that our training profiles are a very good match for employers’ requirements and expectations.
The two presentations, which not only provided information about the courses but also highlighted practical examples of both the potential and the limits of machine translation, were used to discuss the latest trends in AI and LLM. There were so many visitors to the stand that some people actually had to be turned away.
The positive feedback to the presentations and the numerous discussions at the stand meant that our three representatives went home very satisfied, having accomplished their mission. Preparing for and taking part in the 2024 EXPOLINGUA was well worth the considerable time and effort that it entailed. It was once again confirmed that we are spot on with our courses and that our focus areas fully reflect the current developments.
