Prof. Makarand Paranjape
Makarand Paranjape is a Professor of English at Jawaharlal Nehru University's Centre for English at the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies. He teaches courses at the M.A. and M.Phil level and guides doctoral research. His M.A. courses include American Literature, Indian Literature in English/Translation, Readings in Literary Theory and Criticism, and M.Phil courses include Research Methodology and Introduction to Contemporary Literary Theory.
He is author of Mysticism in Indian English Poetry (1988), Decolonization and Development: Hind Saraj Revisioned (1993) and Towards a Poetics of the Indian English Novel (2000) and has edited many critical studies on Indian literature. Among the most recent ones are The Penguin Swami Vivekananda Reader (2005), English Studies: Indian Perspectives (2006) and Science and Spirituality in Modern India (2006). Makarand is also General Editor of a series of reprints of rare and out-of-print Indian English titles published by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, and Editor of Evam: Forum on Indian Representations, an international biannual journal. He is also Managing Trustee of the non-profit Samvad India Foundation.
