Experimental and Corpus-Based Approaches to Ellipsis (ECBAE) 2025
We are delighted to announce that the 7th edition of Experimental and Corpus-Based Approaches to Ellipsis (ECBAE) will take place on site at Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany, on September 8-9, 2025.
Invited speakers
Gabriela Bîlbîie (University of Bucharest)
Masaya Yoshida (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ICREA, Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats)
Workshop description
The workshop brings together researchers using empirical methods to investigate the structure and usage of ellipsis. Building on previous editions of ECBAE, it will provide an opportunity to discuss (i) how our understanding of the theory and usage of ellipsis can be informed by empirical studies and (ii) how different empirical methods can be improved or combined in the research on ellipsis.
We welcome contributions from any linguistic subfield, including, but not limited to, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycho/neurolinguistics, corpus linguistics, historical linguistics, typology and computational linguistics, using any empirical method (including corpus studies, acceptability rating, eye-tracking, self-paced reading, neuroimaging or computational modeling).

Travel and local information
The large international airports nearest to Saarbrücken are: Frankfurt (FRA), Luxembourg (LUX) and Paris (CDG and ORY). Traveling from London to Saarbrücken (via Paris) using the Eurostar only takes 5.5 hours. From Frankfurt, Saarbrücken can be reached by train (Deutsche Bahn) directly or with a single transfer. From Luxembourg, there are direct busses from Luxembourg’s main train station to Saarbrücken. The L40 costs 5€ and can be booked via (Deutsche Bahn or SNCB.
To travel within Saarbrücken and from the city center to Saarland University, we recommend using public transport and the SaarVV trip planner (Saarfahrplan) (also available as an app). The most convenient bus stop is “Universität Campus”, which is served by the bus lines 101, 102, 109, 111 and 150. From the city center, a bus ride takes 12-15 minutes. If you plan of two or more bus rides on the same day, it is convenient to purchase a day pass ("Tageskarte"), which is cheaper than two single tickets. Tickets can be purchased from the bus drivers (cash only), vending machines at the streetcar (Saarbahn) stations or through the SaarVV app.
If you are traveling by car, you have three parking options at the university (find all information regarding parking here):
Parking zone A (central campus zone)
- no charge for short-stay parking (up to 60 minutes), between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., or on weekends
- on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.: first hour free of charge, second hour EUR 4, then EUR 2 per hour or part thereof
Because of the limited parking space on campus, it is recommended to use the car parks P2 (Uni Mitte) and P3 (Uni Ost) instead!
- EUR 1 per hour (first hour is free and the max. daily charge are EUR 3)
- The car parks are closed weekdays from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Since the campus of Saarland University is located outside of town, but well connected with public transport (bus), it is convenient to book a hotel in the city center. In case of traveling by car, we recommend to consider booking a parking spot at the hotel.
- Hotel Madeleine (city center)
- Domicil Leidinger (city center)
- Mercure Hotel Saarbruecken City (city center)
- H2 Hotel Saarbrücken (city center)
- Gästehaus Hotel Weller (between city center and university campus)
- Hotel Schlosskrug (near city centre)
- Triller Hotel & Apartments – Saarbrücken (near Saarbrücker castle)
The workshop will take place on the third floor of building A2.1 (Innovation Center) on Saarland University's main campus. Please click here for a campus map. Presentations will take place in room 3.05.1.
