Saarland – small in size, big in ideas

One of Saarland’s most attractive features is its unique location close to both France and Luxembourg. High-speed train services can take you to Paris in less than two hours, the city of Luxembourg is only a hundred kilometres away and it’s not far to Belgium either.

Being located so close to France and Luxembourg means that many of the bus and rail services are cross-border services. Since 1 March 2020, Saarland University students have been able to travel by bus to Luxembourg free of charge using their semester travel ticket. And once in Luxembourg, public transport can also be used free of charge, no matter whether it’s bus, train or tram.
