Three Saarland University scientists honored as “Highly Cited Researchers” (PI Andreas Keller)
In the academic world, excellent research performance is often measured by the number of citations of publications. Every year, the list of “Highly Cited Researchers” includes the top researchers in certain subject areas whose publications have been cited most frequently by other scientists worldwide. This year, three researchers from Saarland University were included in the list due to their high research reputation.
These three researchers from Saarland University are “Highly Cited Researchers”:
- Michael Böhm, Professor of Internal Medicine with a focus on Cardiology/Angiology ( listed in the field of Clinical Medicine)
- Andreas Keller, Professor of Clinical Bioinformatics at Saarland University (listed in the “interdisciplinary” category)
- Ori Staszewski, Senior Physician at the Institute of Neuropathology at Saarland University (listed in the category “interdisciplinary”)
To determine the “Highly Cited Researchers”, the US company Clarivate evaluates the “Web of Science” database it operates every year, which records scientific publications from a wide range of disciplines. The compilation lists 20 subject areas in the natural, life and social sciences as well as the “Cross-Field” category, in which interdisciplinary publications have been made.
The ranking lists all researchers who have had a significant influence on their subject area by publishing several frequently cited papers in the last decade and are therefore among the top one percent of the most cited publications in their subject area. In addition to the sheer number of citations, a qualitative analysis and an expert assessment are included, so that the “Highly Cited Researchers” is not just a summary award, but also a scientifically evaluated award.
This year, 6636 scientists from more than 1200 institutions in 59 countries and regions were selected for the list of “Highly Cited Researchers”. Of these, 332 are conducting research in Germany, which ranks fourth among the scientific locations, after the USA, China and the UK.
