Methods and Theories in Information Systems
Course Objectives
The online course “Methods and Theories in Information Systems“ (ManTIS) is designed to introduce students to the most common paradigms, methods, and processes used in research within the field of Information Systems (IS). Information and communication technologies (ICT) have transformative impact on organizations, individuals, and the entire society. The IS discipline addresses effective design, delivery, use, and impact of ICT and investigates the phenomena that emerge when ICT and the social system interact.
The online course places a strong emphasis on the theoretical and methodological foundations of Information Systems (IS) research. It covers essential aspects like planning, managing, and conducting research ethically. Additionally, it explores key theoretical foundations, including philosophical underpinnings and specific theories relevant to IS research. The course also addresses various research approaches and methods, such as case studies, design science research, literature reviews, as well as both qualitative and quantitative methods.
The knowledge gained by attending this online course will help the students in preparing and conducting not only their seminar or final theses, but any type of research project.
