Dominik grew up in Augsburg and Allgäu.  He studied chemistry at TU Dresden and chemical engineering at ENSC Rennes and ENSC Lille (France).  He obtained his PhD with Thomas Strassner (TU Dresden, Physical Organic Chemistry) in 2013.  After a postdoctoral stint with T. Brent Gunnoe (University of Virginia, USA) within the Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalization (CCHF) and featuring transition metal catalysis, he performed further postdoctoral work with Guy Bertrand (UC San Diego, USA) in the area of p-block chemistry.  He carried out his habilitation at the chair of Karsten Meyer at FAU Erlangen (Germany) with investigations on multiple bonded late transition metal complexes, iron/cobalt chemistry, and organic biradicals for photochemistry.  In 2020, he assumed his current position as Professor for coordination chemistry at Saarland University, Saarbrücken (Germany).  Dominik is married to Aline, father of Carlotta, Leander & Marlene, and likes (or used to like) – when not thinking about or doing chemistry – mountains, backpacking, music, and frisbee discs.
