14th Annual Teachers’ Day
19th of September, 2017, 8.30 am -4.30 pm
at Saarland University
“My year 9 just aren’t motivated!” “I wish the pupils were more actively engaged in the learning process!” “My pupils and I are stuck in a rut. How can we get out?” If any of these sound familiar, you will not want to miss Teachers’ Day 2017:
Engagement and Motivation – Making learning fun and meaningful
Pupils learn best when they are well motivated and engaged in their learning – when it matters to them, when it’s meaningful and when they have a sense of ownership over it. This year’s keynote by Dr. Frank Haß will look at theories of motivation and engagement, and the subsequent workshops aim to link theory with classroom practice. All workshops will offer fresh ideas for resources to improve pupils’ motivational levels and their cognitive and emotional engagement in classroom activities. Topics will include:
- Boosting motivation through authentic reading and listening activities
- Using TV series to engage pupils in listening and speaking activities
- Teaching without the coursebook / “Materials-light” teaching: exploiting pupils’ language as it emerges in the classroom
- The use of drama to develop communicative and interactional competence
- Focusing on the pupil by using cooperative learning techniques
As always, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other teachers and experts both from Germany and abroad. We look forward to welcoming you in September!
