Teachers' Day 2022
World Englishes and Anglophone Cultures
19th Teachers’ Day
Continuing our series of successful and popular Teachers’ Days, the English Department at Saarland University, in cooperation with the Zentrum für Lehrerbildung, the Landesinstitut für Pädagogik und Medien, the ILF, and the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut, invite students, trainee teachers and teachers of English to the 19th annual Teachers' Day.
11th of October, 2022
World Englishes and Anglophone Cultures
"Englishes, Englishes, Everywhere"
This year's Teachers' Day will look at the role of English as a world language (as well as the cultures that come along with it) and its ever-changing status as a tossed salad of sorts, or even a set of somewhat separate salads. The huge number of varieties with billions of speakers spanning the globe are a testament to this fact.
Questions to be explored in the keynote and workshops include:
- Which Englishes and associated cultures can and should we expose our students to?
- What contexts are most relevant to the 21st century learner?
- What counts as suitable and comprehensible input (literary and non-literary, multi-modal and mono-modal) in our digital world?
- How can we ensure that our students are able to participate in a global English discourse?
Join us in Saarbrücken for the first post-pandemic in-person Teachers' Day.
As always, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other teachers and experts both from Germany and abroad. We look forward to welcoming you in October!
