Stay Abroad
Students are required to spend a period of time in an English-speaking country or region in order to perfect their speaking, listening, and writing skills and to broaden and supplement their cultural understanding. This website is meant to guide you through this part of your degree:
- You will find out more about the regulations of your respective study programmes and the administrative steps involved in your semester abroad in the subpages on important documents and frequently asked questions below.
- The study abroad / work abroad / PAD subpages might help you decide what you would like to do during your stay abroad.
- Finally, we offer an overview of funding options and a list of ideas for those of you who need more inspiration for their stay abroad.
Other points of contact for your stay abroad:
- MS Teams: We have a group on MS Teams for the stay abroad, which you can join via the following code: e0p2k1c. The group is used for announcements and internship offers, but it also provides the opportunity for students to connect and share their experiences about their stay abroad.
- The International Office: If you don't know where to start, the University's Go-Out Service Center (bld. A4 4, Campuscenter) is a great first point of contact to find out more about funding options, partner universities, and internship opportunities. Make an appointment here: https://www.uni-saarland.de/en/global/go-out.html
- Peer advisor: You can also make an appointment with my assistant (Elias Müller). He can help you with general questions and tell you where to find more information on relevant aspects of the stay abroad. He can be reached via auslandsaufenthalt_englisch[at]uni-saarland.de and offers in-person as well as online appointments.
- Stay-abroad advisor: If you have more detailed questions about the recognition of your stay abroad or would like to make an appointment for my office hour, please contact me here: Dr. Heike Mißler, auslandsaufenthalt_englisch[at]uni-saarland.de
Stay Abroad: The Short Version
Click on the picture on the right for an overview of your stay abroad and the necessary administrative steps.
After your stay abroad, submit all the supporting documentation as well as the relevant forms for the Prüfungsamt (see here
) in a single PDF file. Send it to the following email address: auslandsaufenthalt_englisch[at]uni-saarland.de.
If you submit incomplete documentation, we cannot process your request for the recognition of your stay abroad. This causes confusion and delays, so please make sure you document all the stages of your stay abroad accordingly, including your travel tickets, your accomodation, and any documentation about your studies/internship/work experience/English language courses abroad. It is usually a good idea to take photos of all relevant documents and/or save digital copies in a cloud storage.
Study Abroad with Erasmus+: Call for Applications 2025/26
Please find the Erasmus call for applications 2025/26, as well as the Erasmus Student Charter below. More information on the programmes and the link to the online application form can be found in the document.
