Any student or prospective student who also has employment obligations, is caring for children, supporting family members with care needs, is suffering from a chronic health condition or a disability needs a solution that allow them to reconcile study obligations and personal circumstances or responsibilities. Saarland University allows these students to enrol as part-time students.

Students may apply to study part-time during a specified period of time - as far as the examination regulations of the respective subject allow this.

However, there are no exclusive part-time degree programmes where, for example, courses are only offered in the mornings or afternoons. Studying part-time means that, in certain semesters, students only have to attend half of the courses that they usually would have to take. This means that part-time students are enrolled in normal full-time degree programmes, but have more time to complete them.
