Designetz

Duration: 2017 - 2020
Grant: BMWi

Data protection in the smart grid is a central research topic of the chair, which has published several widely cited papers on this topic. A DAAD-funded exchange project with the University of Lleida on the privacy-compliant deployment of smart electricity meters ran until the end of 2015.

This preliminary work led to participation in the "Designetz" project application, which - with numerous partners from Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia - aims to provide a practical demonstration of the feasibility of a smart grid. A blueprint for the energy transition and the energy grid of the future is to be developed. In this project, the UdS is working, among other things, on practically implementable solutions for handling smart meter data in a way that complies with data protection requirements and is investigating, among other things, possible de-anonymization attacks on smart meter data for this purpose.
