Topic:'How do we understand other people's actions?'
Abstract:
When you see a lady standing on her doorstep and scrabbling in her bag, it is easy to infer that she is looking for her keys. This talk will examine the cognitive and brain systems which allow us to make sense of other people's everyday actions. I will review evidence for a hierarchical model of action understanding and how this can help us make sense of current controversies about mirror neurons. Furthermore, I will explore the relationship between the action hierarchy and theory of mind, both in typical and autistic individuals.
